A new local accommodation scheme called the Dorset Approved Visitor Accommodation Scheme (DAVAS) has been created by Destination Dorset and VisitEngland. This is not star rated and focuses on ensuring the minimum legal standards for providing visitor accommodation are met, and that the accommodation is safe and clean.
Quality gradings
Serviced accommodation: A VisitEngland or AA quality score is awarded for every aspect of serviced accommodation including the comfort of the bed, the quality of the breakfast and dinner, the cleanliness and the warmth of welcome. VisitEngland and the AA assess hotels and guest accommodation to the same criteria and award one (simple, no frills) to five (exceptional, degree of luxury) stars. The star ratings reflect the overall quality of the experience.
Places that ‘go the extra mile’ to make your stay a special one will be awarded a high star rating and may achieve a Gold or Silver Award.
Types of serviced accommodation: Hotels (H): have a minimum of six bedrooms, but are more likely to have 20+ rooms. Guest Accommodation (GA) encompasses anything from one-room bed and breakfasts to larger accommodation which may offer dinner and may be licensed.
