The natural place to be... ...for London 2012 sailing


The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are coming to Dorset in the summer of 2012. Weymouth and Portland, with the fantastic backdrop of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, will host the sailing events between July and September 2012. This once in a lifetime event will come to life as the town is dressed with banners, flags, bunting, posters and a whole host of colourful displays making it a special place to be.


There will be plenty to see and do; here are just a few of the things you can expect, together with some advice and information on travel.


Key dates:


Torch Relay: 12 &13 Jul. Visiting destinations in Weymouth and Portland. 12 Jul: Evening celebration and entertainment on Weymouth Beach


Olympic Games: 27 Jul− 12 Aug. Sailing: 29 Jul – 11 Aug, between 12pm & 6pm


Live site on Weymouth Beach: 27 Jul – 12 Aug. Two large screens showing free live coverage of the sailing and other Olympic sports.


Weymouth Bayside Festival: 27 Jul – 12 Aug. Located on the Pavilion peninsula, the festival will showcase Dorset’s vibrant and exciting arts and culture, food, drink, crafts, events, entertainment and


attractions, including the Jurassic Coast


Paralympic Games: 29 Aug − 9 Sept. Sailing: 1 – 6 Sept., between 11am & 6pm


Travel and transport: To help you plan your journey visit www. dorsetforyou.com/traveldorset, a free real-time online traffic and travel information service which includes availability of public transport and Park & Ride spaces. During the Olympic Games period (27 Jul - 12 Aug) a comprehensive park and ride scheme with additional parking for up to 10,000 cars, and a bus shuttle service into Weymouth, will be provided.
