...to discover Dorset The natural place to be...
Weymouth and Portland is an ideal base to discover Dorset
Dorset is steeped in rich history and heritage with many historic houses, castles, churches and forts to visit. Not to mention the wealth of iconic landmarks such as the Cerne Abbas Giant, Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, the Jurassic Coast, Chesil Beach stretching 18 miles from Portland to West Bay, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Old Harry Rocks in Swanage, and Corfe Castle.
Take a walk along the south west coast path to experi- ence the 95 mile stretch of World Heritage Jurassic Coast, or why not view it from a boat trip at sea. Search for fossils or marvel at recent finds in local museums, don’t miss the pliosaur’s giant jaw displayed in Dorset County Museum. Seaside hotspots include Bourne- mouth, West Bay, Lyme Regis, Swanage and Charmouth. Or, be seen at Sandbanks, one of the most expensive postcodes in the country. Don’t miss the picturesque harbour at Christchurch.
Abbotsbury
Dotted around the county are traditional market towns such as Dorchester, Bridport, Blandford, Wimborne, Shaftesbury and Sturminster Newton, and pretty ‘chocolate box’ villages, such as Milton Abbas, Abbotsbury and Corfe Castle. Sample delicious local Dorset produce by visiting one of the many farm shops, or buying Direct from Dorset goodies.
