Top marks for ‘outstanding’ school

BREDHURST CE Primary School has received topmarks from Ofsted in its latest report. The village school was rated out- standing in all categories, with excel- lent standards in English and maths retained over a number of years. Inspectors who visited the 117-

pupil school in December noted that most Year 5 and 6 children were working at a high level for their age. The team was impressed with the imaginative curriculum which the pupils had helped to establish, and which inspired them to do their best. “Pupils’ exemplary personal development, behaviour and attitudes towards learning contribute significantly to their achieve- ment,” said the report, while excellent lead- ership and management and teaching were all lavished with praise. Inspectors said the Early Years Founda-

tion stage had improved from good to out- standing since the previous inspection in January, 2009, and the needs of young chil- dren were exceptionally well met.

has been rocked by a series of events in recent months and is currently the subject of a borough council inves- tigation. The full-time clerk, who handles the parish admin including minuting the meetings, has been off sick

not have the funds to finance such a proj- ect, and also believes the nets will be in- effective in preventing balls from straying into nearby residents’ gardens. The club has been advised that the best protection would be afforded by netting placed in individual residents’ gardens – but even these would not be failsafe, as they would be only be effective when the wickets were in a certain position. Members of the club are now speaking

to individual householders around The Green to seek their views. Cricket club chairman Steve Pearce

said: “The club has public liability insur- ance – which means any damage will be put right at our expense, through our in- surers. In addition to this, we now have a tiler and glazier who have agreed to repair any damage caused by flying cricket balls to properties around The Green within 48 hours.” He added that the club hoped to getwarning signs erected in the vicinity of the cricket pitch. Following a row between the club, the parish council and a number of local resi- dents, a risk assessment conducted by the club found that no one had been injured by a cricket ball in its 262-year history.
