Gallagher Group signs up to naming rights deal at new football stadium

MAIDSTONE United’s new football stadium is to be named The Gallagher Stadium. The club has agreed a six-fig-

ure naming rights deal for their new ground off James What- man Way with The Gallagher Group – one of the major in- vestors in the project and the firm behind much of the work already carried out. Pat Gallagher, Gallagher Group chairman, said: “We are proud to have helped the own- ers get the project off the ground and it is a wonderful

‘No decision’ appeal AN appeal has been lodged against Maidstone Council’s non-determination of an outline application to erect two de- tached family homes in a rear garden at The Street, Ulcombe. The applicant lost patience

with the council’s lack of a deci- sion regarding the development of three and four bedroom houses behind Three Trees, at the south- ern end of the village opposite the primary school, and has brought it to the attention of a government planning inspector. The council says it would have refused the scheme in its current form, considering it was cramped and poorly designed, harmful to the rural character of the area as well as the setting of neighbouring Grade II listed Chestnut Farm.

gesture for the club to put our name to the new stadium.” The Gallagher Group, based

in Aylesford, has agreed a £150,000 five-year naming

rights deal for the 3,000 capac- ity stadium, the first football ground in the country to in- clude a hi-tech 3G pitch from the outset.

Town centre managers’ traffic concerns CONCERNS about pedestrian access to the new Maidstone United FC ground have been voiced by Town Centre Management. Although the new Gallagher Stadium, next to Whatman Park,

is considered an ideal location, parking and pedestrian access from the main A229 was cause for concern, agreed members. Cllr Malcolm Robertson believes the current pedestrian cross-

ing close to the White Rabbit pub needs to be re-assessed. The club itself is carrying out an internal health and safety audit and a comprehensive travel plan.

WAREHOUSEMAN Michal Tejkowski (27), of Enterprise Road, Maidstone, was jailed for 18 years after being found guilty of raping two young women in Brighton and the sex assault of an elderly woman in Mote Park. The judge at Lewes Crown Court de- scribed Tejkowski as a “thoroughly dan- gerous man who had shown not a shred of remorse or human compassion towards his victims”. Judge Coltart commended PC Thomas Mepstead, the

Kent officer who rang Sussex Police after watching a re- construction on BBC’s Crimewatch programme and spot- ted similarities in the Brighton attack on a teenager to the one inMote Park on a 67-year-old woman on May 6. Det Ch Insp Trevor Bowles, who led the investigation,

said Tejkowski’s crimes were appalling. ”All three vic- tims showed immense courage and strength throughout the police investigation and during the trial. “My team and I have been humbled by their courage

and strength in giving evidence against their attacker, a predatory rapist.”
