most beautiful in France, on the last weekend in April. There are stalls all around its circular covered cloisters and spreading out to the other parts of the village. It is a great event to buy special plants and to meet and talk with many of the area’s growers.

My favourite has to be the plant fair at Lascaveres. It usually takes place on the Sunday afternoon, of the same weekend (two days of plant buying opportunities.. heaven). There are plants galore, donated by nurseries and individuals. Prices are low and competition is fierce, to grab that choice plant. Here you can buy perennials and bedding plants, vegetable plants of all shapes and colours and trees and shrubs.

At the same time, there is the warm glow of knowing that this event raises vast sums for charity.

As if this wasn’t enough, the glory of Lascazeres has to be the ‘Tearoom’. This reaches to every gardener’s heart with teas and coffee and an enormous array of cakes, pies and gateaux. It is worth the scrummage of the plant stalls to relax here with a well earned cup of tea.

See you there!
