KEYNOTE SPEAKER Terry Tamminen Founder/President 7th Generation Advisors


Author, “Cracking the Carbon Code: The Keys to Sustainable Profits in the New Economy”


Terry Tamminen served Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as Secretary of the California Environ- mental Protection Agency and as Chief Policy Advisor. During his tenure in Sacramento he was the architect of the Hydrogen Highway Network, the Million Solar Roofs initiative and California’s landmark Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006. What is less known is the breadth of his interna- tional environmental and business experience. He has been a ship’s caption, and has managed the largest sheep ranch east of the Mississippi as well as a multi-million dollar real estate company. He assisted Nigeria in the creation of its first solid waste recycling program. Mr. Tamminen’s latest book is Cracking the Carbon Code: The Keys to Sustainable Profits in the New Economy (Palgrave). He is the Founder and President of 7th Generation Advisors, an advocacy group helping non-profit organizations promote environmental and clean energy policies.

A native of Sacramento, and the first African American to be elected its Mayor, Kevin Johnson’s stated long-term goal is for Sacramento to become known as a national green leader, economically and environmentally. His vision is to transform the region into “Emerald Valley.” This vision focuses on five policy areas – energy, waste and recycling, water and nature, urban design and building and green technology. As Sacramento Mayor since 2008, he has been a champion of public education, public safety, economic development and boosting community engagement. Well-known as a former basketball player, he played for 12 seasons with the Phoenix Suns. Upon his retirement he served as CEO of St. HOPE, a non-profit community development organization he founded to revitalize inner-city communities.

Elton B. Sherwin founded the Ridgewood Capital Palo Alto office in 1999 and is currently Senior Managing Director at Ridgewood Capital Management, LLC. Earlier in his career, he spent 20 years in sales, marketing and product management, during which time his products won many awards, including a COMDEX Award for the Best New Technology. Discover Magazine honored him as Soft- ware Innovator of the Year in 1994, and his focus has been designing and introducing leading edge, high-tech products into emerging markets. Mr. Sherwin holds eight patents. His first book, The Silicon Valley Way, is used by entrepreneurs and university programs around the world. His second book, Addicted to Energy – How to Save our Economy and Our Climate (Energy House), written as a guidebook to a fictional governor offering advice on how to manage the climate and energy crises, was published in 2010.


As Deputy Secretary and Special Counsel for Green Business Development and International Part- nerships at the California Environmental Protection Agency, Margaret Kim has been an outspoken advocate for international Cap and Trade programs. She represents California at the International Carbon Action Partnership, and she previously served as Senior International Climate Policy Advisor and China Program Director to the Chair of the California Air Resources Board and Secretary of CalEPA. Ms. Kim has a long history of government service on legal issues as Public Advisor to the California Energy Commission under Governor Gray Davis and General Counsel to the California Resources Agency. Prior to her government work, she served as General Counsel and Executive Vice President to a range of multinational corporations specializing in environmental law and interna- tional trade and investment.
