Glastonbury – definately – but also some of the smaller gigs too, and appearing live on the Janice Long Show and on Bob Harris. Te most memorable was a show we did one aſternoon at Wakefield Women’s Prison – a very moving experience. We also toured all over the UK with a band called Casbah Club, which featured Bruce Foxton from the Jam and the boys from Big Country, which was a complete laugh. Tere was a funny incident in a hotel one night when Bruce Foxton asked to move rooms, as the hen party in the room next door to his was making too much noise. Unbenown to him, it was us! Bruce Watson, Big Country’s amazing guitar player, guested on our last album, ‘Boys from the Abattoir’, and sitting with him while he recorded his parts was a complete privilege.
Waking the Witch broke up in 2007, but we are best mates and still regularly get together. We all still perform in one way or another, but Jools and Rachel wanted to focus more on family life. I’ve been playing solo, or in various collaborations over the last 4 years. I had the honour of playing three little tours accompanied by Clive Gregson, (Any Trouble, Gregosn & Collister, Richard Tompson Band) which was a fantastic experience. He has been really supportive and a great influence, and invited me to sing on his latest album, ‘Bittersweet’. Last year, I also put a Bob Dylan track down on a compliation of Dylan songs made to raise money for Oxfam, which included Martin Simpon, Jez Lowe, Christine Collister, Chris
While, Julie Matthews etc, so it was good to be part of that project, and I also put a Michael Chapman track, ‘Te Mallard’ on a compilation of his songs that was put together to celebrate his seventieth birthday, along with Maddy Prior and Bridget StJohn, and we’ve just found out that this is going to be released in the States next year, so that’s very exciting.
I will be on the road to support the release of ‘Stories of Angels & Guitars’ from February 3rd. Becky Mills, who was also in Waking the Witch is coming with me for these dates. She is a phenomenal guitar player and
