EDUCATE . ENCHANT. ENRICH . ENLIGHTEN

Dear Friends of The Paramount,

T

his past year has been a year for reflection on the last 80 years of the Paramount’s history and contemplation

about the next decades of The Paramount’s future. Like other nonprofit organizations in our area, we have faced challenges during the economic downturn. Thankfully, the generosity of our donors and community has allowed us to pull through and create new opportunities that will allow The Paramount to continue bringing superior programming to our community—from classical to education to comedy to country. What new opportunities, you

might ask? Well, some things are simply not ready for prime time yet—you’ll just have to stay tuned. But suffice to say that The Paramount Board and staff have done a tremendous amount of work over the last year identifying strategies to strengthen

our organization over the long run and we’ll be rolling some of those out in the very near future. I think you will like the direction we’re heading! The Paramount continues to

provide a vibrant anchor for our downtown, providing top-quality arts and entertainment opportunities as well as educational programs. A particularly bright spot this year has been the success we’ve had in bringing local and regional school children to the theater for our educational programming—more than 11,500 students this year! To watch the sea of children coming into the theater prior to one of these events is truly moving—their excitement, curiosity, and anticipation just exploding from them. This is why we continue to put our effort, time, and financial support into the theater—it makes a difference—to these children, the veterans and their families who come to shows through the Parade Rest program, the outreach recipients who otherwise might not get to see arts events, the downtown

merchants who benefit from the influx of people into the downtown area for a show, the nonprofit organizations that can hold beautiful fundraising events at the theater, the couple reliving their first date 50 years ago, and so many more. Ticket sales and rental income

account for less than half of our annual budget, with the remainder coming from charitable contributions. Donors give in a variety of ways, including unrestricted annual support, show sponsorship, and gifts designated for Classical Music programming, Community Outreach tickets, and our flagship Arts Education Program. Please consider supporting The Paramount and the other important community nonprofit organizations that make our community a great place to live. With your help we can continue to make an important difference in the shared life of our community.

Sincerely yours,

Debra K. McMahon Interim Chair,

Paramount Theater Operating Board
