CHOOSING A NURSING HOME

THE best nursing homes dedicate themselves to providing the very best individualised and person-centred care. They value the importance of ensuring that not just the care needs of each resident are met, but also their social, cultural, religious, spiritual and psychological needs as well. Residents benefit when involved, wherever possible with their own care-planning using a fully holistic approach. At their core is a philosophy to offer individual care with dignity and companionship, with the framework of a comfortable and homely atmosphere. The highest possible standard of nursing care, whilst respecting the personal needs and privacy of each and every resident, is paramount.

Benefit

The move to a Care Home can be daunting to a person who has previously led a full and independent life. A new resident will benefit from maintaining as much independence as possible with the appropriate support measures in place.

Day care and respite care packages

should be designed to give choice and peace of mind knowing that your loved one is being well cared for by competent, fully trained staff. Clients do well when they participate in fully supervised occupational therapy and entertainment. It is very helpful if day care clients during their visit are

provided assistance with bathing, and be allowed to take advantage of other facilities that are available such as hairdressing, chiropody or physiotherapy.

Dignity

In providing a temporary, secure and happy environment guardians and relatives should be left free to fulfill their daily commitments whether it be work, holiday or simply a day out, knowing that their relative is safe and secure. All clients should be enabled to participate in a daily activities program to fulfill their social needs whilst being cared for by highly qualified, experienced and friendly staff who recognise the importance of maintaining their comfort and dignity.

Trained staff are critical to providing a professional service with the highest quality care for all clients, expect to find trained staff to NVQ levels 2 and 3 and management that support ongoing training which ensures comfort and dignity as well as peace of mind for the families.

The setting of a home is equally important. A peaceful residential location with a nice garden but close to

shops and all amenities, can add so much to a residents enjoyment. There is such pleasure in a stroll or enjoying warm relaxing weather in a pleasant garden.
