Fulham, London born Catherine ‘Kit’ Monk celebrated her 100th birthday at the Oakleigh Care Home in Godstone. Catherine and her husband Fred came to Caterham before the Second World War where he worked at St Lawrence’s Hospital. After the war Fred became a charge nurse at St Lawrence’s and Catherine joined him, becoming a State


Enrolled Nurse in 1965.


She retired in 1976 and was involved in voluntary work. Fred died in 1986. Catherine has a son and a daughter and four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.


She has been at Oakleigh for the past four years.
