Joe Yakimchuk, Airport Duty Manager of Airside Operations for the Kelowna International Airport, says the entire process went well. As soon as his department received approval from Canada Border Services Agency, he worked with Aeroméxico to organize the charter’s actual arrival, ensuring there were no conflicts with other carriers. It was a team effort, and he credits Coral Beach Farms for its work as well. “Without having the proper paperwork in place” Yakimchuk says, “it could have taken hours to move the passengers through.”
For those employers considering SAWP, it’s imperative they do their research well before the workers are required. “It’s not a last minute possibility – a lot of planning has to go into this before it can happen,” says Clower.
Garcia-León says employers must also follow the necessary guidelines and be willing to assist the workers with their personal needs, like banking and calling home, and help with day-to-day tasks.
“Employers know they have to provide the support – they must be in good communication with the workers and take time to help them with errands,” says Garcia-León. “They need to think of the workers much as they would a guest.” Visit
