Community Grand Marshal Mindy Reed

Owner of Zin American Bistro and Zini Cafe Mediterrano, Mindy Reed has made her mark in Palm Springs as a successful entrepreneur and active community member.

Mindy started her love of the restaurant business working in the kitchen of her parents vegetarian restaurant in Michigan. In 1992 she moved out of the kitchen to the dining room and on to her other passions, wine and making people smile.

In May of 2005 Mindy Reed opened Zin American Bistro with Chef Nicolas Klontz.

With Chef Klontz’s creative talent in the kitchen and Mindy in the dining room they quickly became popular with locals and tourists alike. Her love of wine and her list of over 250 selections has won the restaurant six consecutive Wine Spectator Awards of Excellence. Working along side Chef Klontz for six years, Mindy became the pastry chef and her Chèvre Cheesecake shines as the restaurants signature dessert.

Zin American Bistro’s cuisine features fresh, local products showcased with traditional American preparations and a little French accent thrown in.

In June of 2009, Reed and Klontz opened Zini Cafe Mediterrano. With the death of Chef Klontz in July 2009, Reed focused on the businesses and giving back to the community to redefine herself. From her travels and her love of food, Mindy chose her favorite dishes and developed a menu embracing the flavor and variety of Spain, Italy, and other Mediterranean countries. An eclectic wine list complements the menu and enhances the feeling of being in a European sidewalk cafe.

In 2010 and 2011 she participated in the AIDS LifeCycle Ride, a seven day cycling event from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money for the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. A top 25 fundraiser both years, she raised over $24,000 for this important cause. A firm believer in equal rights, Reed supports the HRC (Human Rights Campaign) and Equality California.

Hosting frequent fundraisers and participating in local charity events, Reed is involved in many local events including the Palm Springs Food and Wine Festival, Restaurant Week, Dining Out for Life, Food and Wine Festival Palm Desert and the Pendleton Foundation. She has also raised funds for the following charities: Kids with MIA, Palm Springs High

School Art Institute, Food & Wine Festival Palm Desert, Stroke Recovery Center, Mizell Senior Center and Palm Springs Opera Guild.

A board member of Palm Springs Hospitality Association and Palm Springs Restaurant Association and Christmas in July, Reed is actively involved in improving the dining scene in downtown Palm Springs.
