Welcome! Welcome to the 25th Anniversary of Pride in the Desert

Whether you’ve been to dozens of pride events or just one this is the time to walk in the pride parade or cheer as a spectator as the parade travels Palm Canyon Drive. This is the time to gather with friends at the festival and be there for today’s generation and for those coming out for the very first time. This is the time to come together to raise awareness and celebrate in a safe, affirming environment. Above all this is the time to be Proud.

Our theme this year is “Justice Today. Equality Forever!” The theme reflects and celebrates the progress achieved toward equality while also serving as a reminder that the struggle for equal rights for all individuals continues.

Let’s come together as a community and celebrate the recent equal rights achievements:

t The successful repeal of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy;

t The milestone decision by President Obama and Eric Holder to declare DOMA unconstitutional and not defend it in court;

t An election that resulted in California’s legislature being more than 5 percent openly LGBT -- the greatest percentage in any state in history;

t More than 50 percent of California voters now support marriage equality;

t The current challenge of the merits of Proposition 8 under federal law; and

t The Palm Springs City Council resolution supporting marriage equality.

Enjoy the 2011 pride celebration and our freedom of self-expression. Please remember and honor those who have courageously fought for equality and are no longer with us. Gather your friends and join us and together we will celebrate our diversity and advance the cause of individual freedom for all.
