HEAD OF BIRKETTS’ ENERGY TEAM APPOINTED TO THE BOARD OF THE NETHERLANDS BRITISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Birketts LLP consultant, Andrew Wood, has been co-opted on to the General Council of the Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce in a move to help strengthen the UK ties with the Netherlands.

The NBCC is a bilateral chamber of commerce based in the UK and the Netherlands with its main office in Amsterdam. Andrew has been an active member for the past 20 years and works closely with the Chamber, as well as other chambers, banks and trade organisations in the Netherlands assisting Dutch companies with their operations in the UK.

Speaking of this recent appointment, Director of the Netherland British Chamber of Commerce, Michiel Van Deursen commented “NBCC Management and General Council have great pleasure in announcing the recent appointment of Andrew Wood as Member of the General Council of the NBCC. After having worked intensively with Andrew in the Netherlands and the UK through information clinics, seminars and other trade promotional events for many years it is considered to be enormously helpful for the NBCC to now have Andrew on

the Board of the Council with his vast experience in Anglo-Dutch business and extensive network. It is expected that his appointment will further strengthen the NBCC and the role it can play in developing closer business links between the Netherlands and the UK”.

Andrew plays a key role in the region’s energy sector, heading Birketts’ Energy Team and working closely with the Dutch and British Embassies, as well as other trade organisations.

As a result of the firm’s relationship with the energy sector, Birketts sponsored the East of England Energy Group (“EEEgr”) stand reception at the Offshore Europe conference, held in Aberdeen recently. The conference focused on attracting inward investment to the East of England.

Diana Brack from the Netherlands Embassy commented “The Economic section of the Netherlands Embassy has been working closely together with Andrew Wood for the past ten years and we jointly promote bilateral trade & investment opportunities in both the UK and The Netherlands. Andrew’s great knowledge about cultural, legal and practical business in many different sectors has been a tremendous help for Dutch entrepreneurs and the Embassy.”

Andrew is also working with EEEgr, UKTI and the British and Dutch Embassies to help with a trade mission from East Anglia to Off Shore Amsterdam in November 2011.

John Best, Chief Executive Officer of EEEgr commented “Birketts are strong supporters of EEEgr and we are delighted that they held a reception on the Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft - East of England stand at Offshore Europe. The reception brought a lot of inward investment opportunity to the stand as they have strong links with many companies in The Netherlands. We are also pleased that Birketts have brought focus to their work with the industry by forming the Energy Team specialising in the energy sector”.

They complemented our professional approach to ensure a fast and perfect execution of the project,” commented Laurent van Mansfeld, Manager International Operations for VSF, “even the weather was on our side!”
