or centuries, the sale of weapons — from guns to bombs — have made many people rich and infamous. Whereas yesteryear, when many of these arms were sold to unscrupulous characters to wreak havoc on a local or regional scale, today’s arms dealers are selling weapons to unsavoury people, who are looking to serve up disaster on a worldwide scale. Today, the arms are not firearms, grenades and ingredients to make a bomb, but computer viruses, botnets and spyware — the tools needed to hold people’s data hostage and in turn make big bucks for themselves.
