Dec. 8, 2010: PayPal is taken down by a denial of service attack for eight hours in ap- parent retaliation for dropping Wikileaks.


March 2011: Deputy U.S. Secre- tary of Defense William Lynn dis- closes a “foreign in- telligence service” stole 24,000 sensi- tive defense depart- ment files.


March 17:


RSA Security reports it was hacked.

April 16:


LulzSec hacks Sony Online Entertainment and steals data from 24.6 million accounts with 12,700 non-U.S. credit or debit card numbers and expira- tion, as well as 10,700 direct debit records of customers in Austria, Germany, Netherlands and Spain.


May 7:


LulzSec hacks into the Fox TV network and pilfers account details for contest- ants on the show X-Factor.


May 13:


Honda Canada dis- closes it has been hacked and cus- tomers’ information compromised.


May 15: LulzSec breaks into British bank net- works and takes transaction logs from 3,100 machines.


May 22: Defense Contractor Lockheed Martin says it was hacked using data stolen from a RSA Security hack in March.


May 30: LulzSec cracks PBS, posting a hoax story about Tupac being alive in retaliation over a documentary about Wikileaks.
