More modest hospital parking plan
MAIDSTONE Hospital has submitted a re- vamped planning application to increase the amount of staff car parking. After pre-application discussions with Maidstone Council, the hospital’s new appli- cation for the north-west corner of the site is more modest. A planning statement says: “The proposal
offers a reduced scheme than originally ap- plied for, thus retaining the majority of wood- land. The existing car park offers 67 spaces. If
adopted, this proposal will accommodate 251 spaces in total. “The extended car park has been designed
to help with additional personnel required to staff new facilities and departments currently in the process of moving to Maidstone Hos- pital. The expansion of departments includes cellular pathology, moved from Preston Hall, the formation of a new birthing unit and var- ious administrative departments moving from TunbridgeWells to Maidstone.”
Can you help with
Fifties fun? IF you have wedding photographs of any couples married during the 1950s at any of the Lenham churches, the parish council would like to hear from you. It is hoped to provide a snapshot of village life 60 years ago at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, which will be held at the Tithe Barn, Lenham, on Monday, June 4, 2012. Cotton materials of any colours are
also needed to make traditional bunting. Anyone good at woodwork is also wanted to make 60 small wooden crowns for the ‘hunt the crown’ com- petition. Local groups and societies have re- sponded well but more helpers and ideas for stalls and games are still needed. Contact Margo on 01622 859682.

Print project helps boost village playscheme
THE annual Bearsted summer playscheme was once again successful, with an average of 90 children attending daily. Along with the usual events – sports day,
teddy bears’ picnic, pottery painting, library and fire brigade visits, arts, crafts and sports – this year’s playscheme enabled youngsters
to undertake large-scale printing projects thanks to visits from parish councillor John Hughes’ steamroller and a printing company. Maidstonemayor Cllr BrianMortimer (pic-
tured, with mayoress Diane and parish coun- cillor Pat Marshall, left) attended the playscheme to judge a talent show.
