Puffin crossing will help make Provender Way safer

BOXLEY Parish Council agreed at a specially arranged meeting on August 22 to allocate more of its reserves so that a puffin crossing could be installed out- side St John’s School. Having considered a zebra crossing, members decided that they wanted more safety for children and residents and so dug deeper into the reserves. Chairman Martin Pepper said:

“This has taken a lot of time to sort out but happily we are al- most there. “We are trying to plan for the

future and it is worth taking a little extra time and spending a little more to get it right. “Having failed to attract fund- ing from the highways budget it

New village sign THE new sign will soon be in- stalled at Sandling and the coun- cil is planning an unveiling. It would like to hear from any

of the children, and their fami- lies, who were originally in- volved in the design of the sign. The new sign is a copy, as far

as possible, of the old sign and children from Sandling School submitted ideas and pictures for the artist to consider.

was decided we would act rather than face a child being injured.” It is hoped that with a safe crossing point, more parents will allow their children to walk to school, taking more ve- hicles off the road. Be alert to anything suspicious THE council was informed that there has been a mini crime wave in Boxley village and the surrounding rural area. A fuel bowser was stolen from a site and there have been nu- merous cases of diesel fuel being stolen. A trailer has also been stolen andmetals theft is on the increase. PCSO Andy Hawthorn said: “Anyone seeing something suspi-

cious should take down details and ring the police. “We need the support of local residents to stop this, because, ul- timately, it is us, the public, that pay for this through increased bills or insurance premiums.”

Energy efficiency at Beechen Hall THE new ceiling and lights at Beechen Hall were unveiled. The estates committee chairman, Vic Davies, said: “The hall

is often described by our staff as the prettiest one inMedway. Everyone who uses it seems to agree but it is important that the hall is kept refreshed and in good condition.” Energy saving light fittings have been included, along with additional insulation which will help reduce the hall’s energy bill and carbon footprint.

Annual acccounts

are signed off THE council’s 2010/11 ac- counts were successfully signed off without any qualifi- cations by the Audit Commis- sion. Full details are included on the council’s website.
