Murder charge after mother’s stab death
AMAN has been charged with themurder of a 31-year-old womanwho grew up in Vinters Park.
Dawn Taylor (pictured) died after sustain-
ing serious stab wounds in her Sheffield home. The former Vinters Girls School pupil andmother-of-three hadmoved to Yorkshire in 2008. Her death stunned family and friends in
theMaidstone area. Dawn attended Hadlow College after fin- ishing school, studying photography and going on to local work, including a spell as a postwoman inWateringbury andwork at the Muggleton Inn in town. Dawn leaves children Stephanie (10) Reece
(7) and Hannah (3). The two girls were in her house when police arrived. She died of her wounds on the way to hospital.
Congestion review MORE residents driving electric cars will not solve Maidstone’s traffic congestion. But greater use of car- sharing and public transport is a route worth exploring. That is the view of MaidstoneCouncil as it embarks on
amajor review of the town’s gridlock problems. Cllr David Burton, chairman of the regeneration com- mittee, said: “This is your opportunity to give us your opinions, comments and feedback on congestion as it will form part of the review and its outcomes. “We are seeing what other councils are doing. Protected trees request axed MAIDSTONE Council blocked Edwin Barty’s appli- cation to fell two protected acer trees and one horn- beam to the rear of a property at Woodlands, Walderslade.

right to vote… COMMUNITY canvassers will be visiting Maidstone residents who have not returned their voter registration forms by September 1. The borough council sent
out 67,730 forms and by early August less than 25,000 households had re- sponded. Anyone not registered
may find it difficult to open a bank account or get credit as agencies use the electoral register to ver- ify addresses of applicants.
A neighbour said Dawn had started a new relation-
ship with a man after she split from her husband, but that the boyfriend had moved out and back in again repeatedly. Dawn's sister, Carol, said: “She loved the band Bon
Jovi and had seen them live. Shewill be remembered by the way she could light up a room with her smile, and her infectious laughter.” Dawn leaves her parents Linda and Barry, sister
Carol and her children. In a statement shortly after her death, Dawn’s fam-
ily said: “This is a tragic time for our family suffering the loss of a mother, daughter, granddaughter and sis- ter.
“She will be forever in our hearts and sorely missed.” Mark JohnHatter (45), of Hammerton Road, Hills- borough, has been remanded in custody by Sheffield magistrates.

Last orders for town shops THE Co-op supermarket in King Street was set to close at the end of August. The store,which still bears the name of its pred- ecessor Somerfield, was shut down because of “poor trading performance”. Meanwhile, Sharon Music, which opened at 65
High Street in 1971, has also closed. Shop owner Clifton Williams said economic factors, includ- ing the rise of internet trading, had led to a de- cline in trade.
