CROSS CONTINENTAL SOUNDS AT NAC
The Norwich Arts Centre gets a major injection of roots and rhythm as they host Roots and Rhythm Day, ft Dilanga and Rabo de Foguete on Saturday 10 September. NORCA brings you a feast of Latin music from Cuba and Brazil, with two exciting and vibrant bands. During the day there will be a chance to take part in drumming and singing workshops offered by the bands. The workshops run throughout the day, so check the venue’s website for details, with the music kicking off at 8pm. In contrast, twee OFF! have their sites on metropolis as they present New Jersey’s Screaming Females and London’s Dingus Khan on Tuesday 13 September. This rescheduled event gets its outing after a year of relentlessly touring from Screaming Females, which saw them land spots opening for Dinosaur Jr., Throwing Muses, and Jay Reatard, plus dates touring with Arctic Monkeys and the Dead Weather. BIKES AT THE BOUNDARY
It’s that time of the year where The Boundary Pub’s front gets decidedly souped up and becomes resplendent with a glorious collection of motorbikes on September 10th. The annual Bike Show is held with proceeds going to the East Anglian Air Ambulance, and features the same level of entertainment it’s seen on previous years with fun for all the family; even for non-bike fans, there’s a bouncy castle, face-painting, archery and other games, as well as a BBQ to stave off the hunger. The Bike Show wouldn’t be complete without some good music, and Storm and Breaking Belief are booked to provide the perfect soundtrack. All the bikes on display will be judged and trophies will be awarded for Best Classic, Best Paintwork, Best Custom and Best in Show awards. If you are interested in having a stall or stand at the Bike show, in exchange for a donation to the charity, then phone 01603 418324. Dig deep for this worthwhile event - you never know when you may need this crucial service.
BEER SQUARED? THE PERFECT FORMULA.
Carlos, the brewer and brains behind Norfolk Square Brewery has such a passion for brewing and helping people understand beer, that not only is he brewing for the local market, he is also ensuring that via his company, you can access some of the best bottled beers from around the world. After building up a glowing reputation in their three years of business, wining awards along the way, the brewery has opened a beer lover’s paradise in the form of the Two Brewers Beer and Cider shop on Magdalen St, Norwich. As well as stocking their own brews, and supporting other local breweries by stocking theirs, they have diversified by including world beers, ciders and Norfolk wines in their extensive collection. Relishing your support, customers can enter into their loyalty scheme and will soon be able to pick up home brew kits in the future, and get involved in Meet the Brewer sessions, starting a strong relationship of discovery with Carlos and his team.
MUSIC: IN FOCUS
These are the prints that sit on digital storage memory on cameras, mobile phones and computers around the region. Snapshots of stolen moments of musical heritage from our region, taken between September 2010 and September 2011. To save them from collecting binary dust, Outline and the BBC Music Video Festival are proud to present an exhibition featuring the cream of music photography from the region. We have taken in submissions from all levels of photographer, from the candid images captured by amateur gig-goers, to the outstanding professional work of the city’s finest photographers, including a special feature of Andi Sapey’s work, collected over the past year. A friend and colleague to Outline, his unmatchable eye will be celebrated along with all our exhibition entries. The exhibition runs in the Forum Atrium space from Sunday 25th September to Saturday October 1st and is a welcome addition to the full programme of events from the BBC Music Video Festival. Last minute submissions may be accepted, so email
emma@outlineonline.co.uk for more details.
