A TREAT FOR ALL OF THE SENSES! It’s time again to make your way to the event of the summer at the palm-lined Newport Center Drive for the
23rd annual Taste of Newport. Foodies will enjoy culinary creations from dozens of Orange County’s finest restaurants and confectionaries, while wine lovers may sip the blends of fifteen first-class wineries from all over California. Not to worry you non-wine lovers, ice cold brews, delicious cocktails and just about any other beverage will be on hand. If you are a people watcher then this event is your perfect time to gaze, as the event attracts over 50,000 food fans to beautiful Fashion Island.
This is the party of the year and it serves up every
imaginable cuisine from around the world, including just about anything that is grilled, fried, baked, broiled, sautéed or chilled. For those with a sweet tooth and in pursuit of the ultimate sugar rush, gear up for gourmet ice cream, decadent desserts and exotic candy. Some of my favorite restaurants are scheduled to serve; Chakra Indian Cuisine, The Daily Grill, Ho Sum Bistro, Kitayama, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, The Ritz Restaurant and Garden, Rockin Baja Coastal Cantina, Royal Thai Cuisine, Tapas Restaurant and The Yard House. In addition, the event will feature live cooking demonstrations at the Chef’s Cooking Pavilion, hosted by the Newport Beach Restau- rant Association. Rocking the stage on Friday, September 16 is the legendary Joan Jett (see sidebar), next on the lineup is eclectic pop rock sensation, Barenaked Ladies, who command the stage on Saturday, September 17. On Sunday, September 18 two top-notch acts will appear, ABBA: The Concert, featuring original members of the band that have racked up five consecutive USA tours from 2002 through 2006 and 2009. On the same day, “Love Will Lead You Back” to see ‘80s dance-pop diva, Taylor Dayne who sang her way to 17 individual Top 10 Hits on Billboard charts. “Nowhere else can you find an event that has the
culinary and entertainment offerings like the Taste of Newport,” commented Jeff Parker, vice president for the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce (the event’s organizer). “With outstanding restaurants, the great backdrop of Newport Beach and world-class live enter- tainment, we have something for everyone. “ Tickets purchased in advance will be offered at a
discount; general admission tickets are $22 in advance and $25 at the gate. Children under 8 will be admitted free and all entertainment is included in admission. VIP tickets are available for each night of the event, and they’re a great way to enjoy the show from an amazing seat in the first twenty rows. A $125 VIP ticket includes valet parking, single day admission to the Taste, includes access to the private Taste Concert VIP Tent with private restrooms, bartenders, complimentary beer, wine, cocktails and beverages. There are a limited amount of VIP tickets available, as well as luxury suites for private parties with a raised, direct view of the stage.

Joan Jett rose to fame in the 1970s all-girl rock band The Runaways. Ranked No. 32 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Women of Rock N Roll due in part to her smash hit “I Love Rock and Roll” which was a No. 1 hit in 1982. As the leader of the hard-rocking Blackhearts, she’s had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics “Bad Reputation” and “Crimson and Clover.” Jett has the honor of being one of only two women named to Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Players of all time and re- cently started her own electric guitar line. She also sits at the helm of her own highly success- ful label, Blackheart Records and made her acting debut in 1987, co-starring with Gena Rowlands and Michael J. Fox in the filmLight of Day. She appeared in several television show and the independent films, The Sweet Lifeand Boogie Boy and in the Broadway musical ver- sion of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
