WONDERLUST Theatre of NOTE continues the celebration of its 30th anniversary with

the world premiere of Wonderlust. After his wife leaves him, beloved high school biology teacher, Andrew Goodspeed suffers a mild heart attack. In an effort to make sense of his disillusionment, he devises a new course for his students; a study of the science of love. Sharon, Andrew’s best student, is convinced that she is incapable of love and manipulates the experiment, her teachers and peers to prove this theory. But she and Andrew begin to wonder: can true love be proven by observable physi- ological data? Against his better judgment, Andrew allows Sharon to guide the experiment down a more intimate track, putting his job and his reputation in jeopardy. Word of Andrew’s exploits spreads to an evan- gelical congressman with a personal interest in the story. Accusations of impropriety and misconduct fly, as the fine line between student and teacher, science and spirituality blur.Wonderlust runs through October 1st at Theatre of NOTE, 1517 N. Cahuenga Blvd. (just north of Sunset) in Hollywood. Tickets: 323.856.8611 ortheatreofnote.com.

BEYOND THERAPY Prudence and Bruce, two Manhattanites are seeking stable romantic

relationships (aren’t we all)? Nonetheless, each seeks the guidance of their personal shrinks who both suggest that each place a personal ad to find love. By coincidence, Bruce, a highly emotional bisexual who is questioning his sexuality and tends to cry easily, meets his date Prudence, who happens to be a suppressed homophobe—which proves to be a recipe for disaster. The two report back to their respective therapists; Stuart the horn-dog who once seduced Prudence, and the eccentric Charlotte, who stumbles over the simplest of words and interacts with all her patients with the help of a stuffed Snoopy. Clearly the two “professionals” are more screwed up than their patients. Charlotte recommends a revised ad, which once again attracts Prudence. She and Bruce manage to get past their initial loathing and discover they actually like each other. Alas, complications ensue when Bruce’s jealous live-in lover decides to assert himself and do everything possible to hold on to his man. Runs September 23 through October 15 at Theatre Out at The Empire Theatre, 202 N. Broadway in Santa Ana’s Artist Village. Tickets: 714.826.8700 ortheatreout.com
