Texas Fred, The Zydeco Cowboy (WPFW Radio 89.3FM), and The Zydeco Cowboyz & Cowgirlz commemorate “Juneteenth,” on June 19 by riding from President Lincoln’s Cottage at the Old Soldier’s Home in NW, Washington, DC to the Frederick Douglass Home in SE, Washington, DC. This was a 10-mile ride through the streets of Washington, DC. The ride included stops at several DC landmarks including Wilson’s Restaurant across from Howard University, the Civlil War Memorial and Westmin- ster Church in SW, Washington, DC. June 19, 1865 is the date that the last slaves in the U.S. were noti-


fi ed that slavery had been abolished, which was two and a half years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclama- tion. Passed by Congress on January 31, 1865 and ratifi ed on De- cember 6, 1865, the 13th Amendment abolished slavery in the U.S.
