Make Strathclyde Your First Choice!
Postgraduate Law Courses at the University of Strathclyde
Responding to student’s needs and key social and legal developments, the provision of innovative taught programmes are another of Strathclyde’s hallmarks. Law degrees are not only available in traditional formats, but by two year accelerated, or part-time evening attendance. Masters degrees such as Construction Law, Human Rights Law and Information Technology and Telecommunications Law are available for evening study or by online distance learning to suit the needs of professionals and students abroad.
The LLM Degrees in International Economic Law and International Law & Sustainable Development offer a cross-disciplinary and global approach to postgraduate study, offering the option of studying non- law subjects such as economics, international management, governance, enterprise and sustainability, alongside general law studies. At the heart of the new degree programmes is the ‘field’ dissertation - the opportunity to put knowledge and skills into practice, and to base the dissertation around real issues while undertaking a placement with a governmental or non-governmental organisation in a range of developing countries
Every year, hundreds of postgraduate students make Strathclyde their first choice. It’s largely because of our international reputation for world-class
research facilities and the excellence of our teaching staff. But it’s also because Strathclyde is a friendly and forward- thinking university based in the heart of Glasgow, one of Europe’s finest cities
The Law School at the University of Strathclyde is ranked as one of the top in the UK and with a reputation for quality teaching and research, we offer the opportunity to gain an invaluable professional qualification.
For over 45 years we have sought the best ways to provide legal research and education that is relevant in a modern and dynamic world. We have established a reputation for high quality teaching and research in the UK and internationally, not only in the traditional core subjects essential for entry to the legal profession, but also in a wider range of postgraduate subjects.
High quality teaching is underpinned by a level of staff expertise which is among the very best in the UK. In the most recent official assessment of the quality of staff expertise (the Research Assessment Exercise 2008), the majority of the Law School’s output was officially graded world class or internationally excellent - placing us top in Scotland and seventh best in the UK.

Currently offered as a Postgraduate Certificate the aim is to offer the course as a full Masters degree from 2011-12 subject to University approvals.
The research portfolio of the Law School includes several research centres including the Centre for Law, Computers and Technology, the Centre for the Study of Human Rights Law, and the Centre for Sentencing Research.
A vibrant postgraduate research community now exists at Strathclyde in a variety of fields including environmental law, competition law and internet governance. One year MPhil and 3 year PhD degrees are available.
