FACTS: Michael Melnick, age 40 and previously healthy, began to experience heart palpi- tations on January 14, 2000. The following day he saw his primary care physician who performed an EKG. This test showed ST elevations suggestive of infarction and a ventricular tachycardia. Mr. Melnick was referred to St. Agnes Hospital for evaluation by a cardiologist. Dr. Martin Albornoz, a partner in MidAtlantic, was the first cardiologist with whom Mr. Melnick came in contact.
