THE CURRICULUM A

t Bishop Douglass School we provide a broad,

balanced and diverse curriculum based on both academic and vocational pathways of learning. This enables our curriculum to provide built in success and achievement.

‘Stage not age’ is one of the key principles of the curriculum offered at Bishop Douglass School in that we provide opportunities for students to develop according to their learning ability. This innovative approach means that students can be accelerated in their learning. We are proud to offer students personalised learning. All students start taking GCSEs in Year 9, and all move into year 11 with 4 GCSEs already completed. We also offer a very wide range of subjects.

T

he school is extremely well equipped to cater for all students and enable them to face the

challenges of the modern world. We have over 600 computers for student use and have been awarded the ICT Quality Mark. We are well resourced across all the departments, including modern science laboratories, a fully equipped fitness centre, and 6th form study centre.

“The curriculum is frequently reviewed and adapted to ensure that it is relevant to the experiences and interests of students and the context of the school. It uses the knowledge and expertise of staff to best effect and exploits fully opportunities to match examination courses to the stage of a student’s development.”
