Maidstone honours its troops

Maidstone residents and visitors came out in force to support their troops and welcome the new Mayor, Brian Mortimer, at this year’s Civic and Freedom Parade. Many of the Sappers of Maidstone’s 36 Engineer Regiment had seen action in Afghanistan and the parade was led by the Regiment of Gurkhas band. The regiment exercised their right as Freemen of the Borough to march with bayonets fixed, flags flying and drums beating.
