Local villages celebrated THAT wedding in right royal style The party extension!
MORE than 150 children sat down at a 100ft-long trestle table to tuck into a right royal feast in the centre of Sutton Valence. The event – to celebrate the wedding of Prince
William and Kate Middleton – raised over £1,000 towards a fund to complete work at theMemorial Field play area. The day was organised by the Queens Head
Odd Fellows – led by Mark Heath – and sup- ported by the parish council. Chairman Eileen Riden said: “We did not expect
so many. I think they came down from the hills! There were 155 children and there are only 50 in the parish – they came from all over.Wewere just amazed. “There was a hog roast and barbecues. It was a
good communal effort, absolutely brilliant.” Former parish clerk and resident Nicky Dawkins, pictured below with joyful young- sters, was invited to open the play area a few days before the street party. Mrs Riden added: “The play area is two-thirds
done. It’s very nice but we just want to finish it. “We thought if we opened it, it would give greater impetus to the fund-raising.”

Hog cheer for 600 in Yalding
A GIANT sit-down hog roast served 600 people as Yalding held one of the borough’s largest street parties. The three hogs were carved in front of the guests, which in- cluded 250 children, who enjoyed a bouncy castle, live enter- tainment, live bands, a skiffle group, face painting and ice creams served from a van. Yalding parish councillor Vivienne Robinson said: “Every-
body said what a fantastic time they had. What more could you ask for? And the sun shone all afternoon. Brilliant!”
