OUTDOORS GUY JEFF MORRISON

It’s

Summer! Get out there!

Regardless of what adventure you embark upon

this summer, spending time in the Great Outdoors is really its own reward. Summer is about enjoying time with family and

friends in the fresh Canadian air. Camping, fishing and gearing up for the fall hunt are activities I enjoy at this time of year. I could be casting for panfish with my daughters, hauling in bluefish off the coast of New Hampshire (which I will be doing in August), or perhaps scouting the deer woods with my father. As the late Waylon Jennings once wrote, “Maybe

it’s time we got back to basics of love” − and in our case it’s a love of the outdoors. So do yourself a favour this summer. Turn off the

boob tube and forget about gas prices for a change. Get back to where it all began − in that wild and woolly place we call the Great Outdoors.

since1991, with prize money in the thousands of dollars. Find a fishing partner and sign-up now.

The elk herd in Central Ontario’s Bancroft area continues to grow at a healthy rate since being reintroduced 10 years ago. Between 1998 and 2001, the population was restored by relocating elk from Alberta, and once their cowboy hats were removed, they were released at specific sites in Ontario. According to Jamie Stewart, Wildlife Policy Advisor with the Ministry of Natural Resources, the general practices, traditions and safety components of this hunt are
