JANE Marshall has taken over as chairman of West Malling Chamber of Commerce.
Co-owner of the local Oracle, Jane is looking forward to building on recent success to return the chamber to being the voice of the business community.
Educated at Tonbridge Grammar school for Girls, Jane grew up in the town and her family has been involved with Tonbridge Lions Club for many years. Jane still supports and helps out at their events.
After many years working for KPMG in London as a human resources manager, she returned to Tonbridge with her family and moved to Kings Hill in 2000 when she stopped working in London after her third child was born.
In 2004, Jane set up the local Oracle – an advertising directory - with her cousin Anna and this has grown to three editions with a distribution of 36,500 each month. The pair have been active members of networking and business groups over the years and Jane joined the Chamber in 2010. She took over as chairman in April from Peter Blackmore, who will continue to be an active member of the committee.
Over the past year, under his leadership, the Chamber has gone from strength to strength with attendance at meetings increasing from single figures to 45 plus.

West Malling CEP School
THESE are exciting times at West Malling Church of England Primary School and we are all very proud of the continued development of our wonderful school. Over the last three years we have seen the pupil numbers rise from 112 to an expected 180 in September 2011 and our new Reception Class is full with a number of families expressing a wish to be placed on the school’s waiting list.
Our school has a strength of purpose, a passion for fulfilling everyone’s potential through exciting learning experiences and through developing a love of schooling. Our children enjoy school and our staff constantly reflect upon the quote from Benjamin Zander (Conductor of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra) “who am I as a teacher, that my children’s eyes are not shining?” We want our children’s eyes to shine all the time and developing a love for learning is central to our vision for the school.
We encourage our children to become responsible citizens and take an active role in the running of the school. The school has a year 6 pupil who is a member of the Kent Primary School Council and this is a wonderful opportunity for the hopes and wishes of our children to be discussed at county level. Our head boy and head girl also have a number of responsibilities in school along with the class prefects, house captains and school council members.
We are passionate about making school interesting and helping children to develop a number of important skills and values through a range of experiences. Here are just a few of the recent events and activities that our children
have been involved with: We have a strong link with a school in Malawi. Our year 6 teacher visited the school in October 2010 and we have recently had the headteacher of the school visit us. This was a tremendous opportunity for our children and they learned so much about another culture during the week that Mr Matumba spent with us. Our book week was a huge success with some excellent story tellers and a brilliant musical production from a West End company. We are keen to develop a real love of reading at our school and this week certainly inspired many children to read more. We have been involved in a number of sporting tournaments and our football team reached the semi finals of the local small schools competition. We are also a “healthy school” and our key stage one children and parents took part in a healthy eating workshop called “Parrots eat Carrots”. Music is valued highly at West Malling and our school choir organised a tremendous “Friendship” concert for our parents. The choir is a real success and they always perform superbly at our end of term services at St Mary’s Church. We are all very proud of our school and we would welcome visits from anyone who would like to come and see our school in action. We are also planning a community open day on Wednesday 29th June (9:30am to 11:30am) and if you would like any further information, or would like to arrange a visit, please contact our Office Manager, Jenny Spencer or our Families & Community Manager, Jo White.
