VOLUNTEERING in Health is a voluntary patient support service for the benefit of Dawlish hospital, Teignmouth surgeries and all the patients of their branch sites (Bishopsteignton, Chudleigh, Shaldon).
Our aim is to offer practical and emotional support to people both in the community and in the hospital and also to those visiting relatives and friends thereby improving the health and wellbeing of all.
How can we help you?
Hospital – If you, or a relative are in Teignmouth or Dawlish hospital and need support; advice or information we may be able to help.
Transport – If you are unable to make it to a medical or any other appointment, we have volunteers who can take you and stay with you if you wish. We have a suggested tariff which helps to cover the volunteers’ mileage.
Visiting and Befriending – We have volunteers who visit people who are isolated or alone in their homes. This can be on a weekly basis or whatever is convenient to both the volunteer and the person being visited. We can help with shopping if someone is unable to go out or needs assistance.
Support for Carers – If you care for a friend or relative on a regular basis we can support you. We may be able to provide you with a volunteer sitter to sit with the person you care for. We also hold regular carers’ support meetings in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Day Trips – If you want to go out and about in south Devon with others, meet new friends and see new places, we have a series of trips including Seaton Railway, garden centres, and Dartmoor to name but a few.
Local Information – We have a vast knowledge of local services and information. Give us a ring to find out what services and support are available in our local area.
Fundraising – We have a comprehensive programme of fundraising events, to enable us to support our community activities. We are always on the look out for innovative fundraising ideas. If you can help we would be very happy to hear from them.
