SOME of the most respected performers on the current folk music scene will be visiting Teignmouth during the summer. Between June 17 and 19, the town will again host its successful folk festival, now in its 13th year. Guests at the festival include the brilliantly talented duo Belshazzar’s Feast, renowned not only for the stunning musicianship but also for their quirky humour. Catch them at the Carlton Theatre on Sunday, June 19, supported by award-winning young singer James Findlay. The concert ticket also includes a Devon cream tea! Tyde, one of folk’s up-and- coming young bands will be bringing their youthful high energy music to the Carlton Theatre on Saturday, June 18. The concert will also feature Dartmoor-based trio Unstrung Heroes. Friday, June 17, will see popular

band The New Scorpion Band headlining a concert, again at the Carlton. East Anglian duo Mary Humphrys and Ananhata will also be performing their mainly traditional English reportoire. As in previous years the festival will also provide a host of free entertainment ranging from a host of colourful morris dance sides from around the country to, Pete White’s Suitcase Circus. The free Teign Music Stage in the Triangle will host bands including Eat The Rich, Halfway Harmony and the Gollywhoppers. The festival will again be

working in close association with

th

the ever-popular Ship Stage, situated on the back beach, which will feature acts such as The Dambuskers, The Fez Heads and host of other performers. The festival’s popular Saturday night ceilidh will be held at the Teignmouth Community College and will feature the three-piece band Ethel’s Cat providing the music. The event will also see informal music and song sessions at The South Pacific and Courtney pubs, a procession, The City Of Plymouth Pipe Band, the annual folk quiz and the appearance of a couple of rather large visitors!
