Maria has already produced more than 10 shorts and two feature films and is now developing Bobbie Peers‘ feature debut Dirk Ohm – The Illusionist that Disappeared, slated for shooting in 2012. Recently, she established her own production company Mer Film and is working on the development and financing for the next feature by one of Norway’s most promising directors, Ole Giæver.

What kind of films and genres are you interested in? Both as a moviegoer and as a producer, I’m interested in films that challenge me. Films that have a strong vision and are told in a clever and inspiring way. I hope to achieve this with the talents I work with.

What do you want to get out of PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE and Cannes this year? PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE is a very good networking opportunity and I hope to meet new colleagues and potential new partners. It’s also a great venue for presenting my new company MER Film, and I have two feature film projects from promising Norwegian directors, Bobbie Peers and Ole Giæver.

What do you think are the main challenges facing the European film industry over the next five years - and how can we meet them? I think the challenges for the film industry will always be to adapt to new forms of financing and changes in the market. The key is the quality of product and, just as important, the ability to communicate efficiently with the audience.

David has produced and co-produced more than 15 documentaries, animation and feature films throughout Europe since 2005. Currently, David is involved in producing Ari Folman‘s The Congress and Sylvie Testud‘s La vie d‘une autre as well as developing new projects by Simon Brook and Fanny Ardant. He has also been working since December 2009 as a consultant for the RTL Group on multimedia-related projects.

What kind of films and genres are you interested in? I know I have seen a good film or read a good script when I really felt some emotion. I need to be entertained, delighted, touched, or even learn something.

What do you want to get out of PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE and Cannes this year? Being one of the PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE should help to build my reputation and may also help me get better access to distributors and sales agents. I will have the opportunity to meet with other European producers with completely different styles and qualities.

What do you think are the main challenges facing the European film industry over the next five years - and how can we meet them? European cinema needs to be reinvented just like the French and British New Waves were. It needs to have a new period of creativity by giving more opportunities to the young generation or to innovative projects. Filmmakers and producers should be less dependent on public subsidies. Without copying Hollywood, it would force us to have a different approach.

Dritan entered the film industry in 2006, producing several shorts and executive producing three feature films, including Artan Minarolli‘s Alive in 2008. Last year, he was the Albanian co-producer on German filmmaker Johannes Naber‘s award-winning debut The Albanian. Dritan is now in production on two feature films: Children of the Winter Sun by Antonio Mitrikeski and Love and the Rags of Time by Gjergi Xhuvani.

What kind of films and genres are you interested in? Definitely drama. Albania is a developing country with enormous political and social problems, that’s why the stories used as film topics are usually dramatic.

What do you want to get out of PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE and Cannes this year? It is a possibility to discuss with other participating producers about ongoing projects, and an opportunity to continue the relationship even after the event has ended.

What do you think are the main challenges facing the European film industry over the next five years - and how can we meet them? In order to keep up with the strong competition from Hollywood with its large audience, the European film industry needs more financial support and distribution. As far as Albania is concerned, this country needs to improve in social areas and this leaves insufficient resources for cinema, which, of course, has an impact on film production. I strongly believe that Albania needs to have more collaboration with other countries.
