BY JEREMY KAY Anchor Bay Films has picked up rights to Annapurna Pictures’ Las Vegas thriller Catch .44 starring Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker and Malin Akerman. The story is about three women


who get involved in a stand-off when their enigmatic crime boss sends them to intercept a drug deal. Aaron Harvey wrote the screen-


play and makes his directing debut. Annapurna’s Megan Ellison pro- duced with Michael Benaroya of Benaroya Pictures and Randall Emmett. The fi lm is now in post. Cassian Elwes brokered the deal


with Bill Clark and Kevin Kasha of Anchor Bay on behalf of the fi lm- makers. Sierra/Affi nity holds inter- national rights. The deal marks Anchor Bay’s


third of the month, while Anna- purna acquired rights to the Termi- nator franchise last week.

Le Pacte heads to Amazonia


Shootout Amit Kumar, director of hit short The Bypass, will shoot his debut feature, The Monsoon Shootout, as a co-production between the UK, India, Netherlands and France. Set during the monsoon in Mumbai, the thriller revolves around a rookie cop. Production is due to start in July. UK producer Trevor Ingman’s Yaffle Films developed the film with support from the UK Film Council. It will co-produce with India’s Anurag Kashyap Films and Pardesi Films from the Netherlands, in association with Arte France. Liz Shackleton

Leagues Under The Sea, the fi lm fol- lows Captain Nemo as he battles the evil genius behind a string of naval disasters. It will be partly fi nanced by Chi-


nese investors and will shoot on stages in Beijing. Los Angeles- based Illuminate Hollywood will oversee the 3D visual effects.
