pacific WELCOME TO OUR SPRING EDITION

We sculptors belong to a small and generally tight community.

Technical

information is critical for creative and very practical reasons. Therefore, we include one story about a sculpture supplier in most issues of sp magazine. Sculpture suppliers are an important part of this community and need to obtain the trust and loyalty of you, our reader. This can, in part, be accomplished by hearing their story, often an interesting and engaging tale.

In the last issue we told the story of the company SensAble Technologies. This was in line with our wish to explore digital sculpting. In the next issue we will follow that theme while talking to, and writing about, Dwayne Leman and his company 3-D Cutting.

Their software,

CNC machines and milling equipment makes up a most interesting sculptors’ toolbox. In this issue we are talking to a more traditional supplier, Karen Ryer at Stone Sculptors Supplies. You will read about her commitment to sculptors and their needs in general, with her open attitude in terms of information sharing and community service.

We are also featuring a number of sculptors who are outside of our general footprint area, from Central America in particular.

Fernando Quiroz, from a small village called Potam in the state of Sonora Mexico, illustrates his figurative work. Orestes Sanchez, sculptor from Antigua Guatemala, works mostly in clay, and his sculptures are wall-mounted objects. As well, Bavarian sculptor TOBEL discusses his inspiration and approach to stone sculpture.

IN OUR NEXT ISSUE:

In our footprint, we showcase Larry Andreoff, a sculptor from Calgary, Alberta Canada, showing his often humorous and apparently African referenced wood sculpture.

Bruce

Beasley is also featured. A very well known internationally recognized US artist, Bruce exhibits a wealth of abstract pieces that have delighted art appreciators for years. We are still pursuing the idea of a Pacific Rim Sculpture Conference.

I hope you enjoy this issue…stay tuned for more!
