which are laid in a geometric grid completely covering the base. They are laid flat on the base or perpendicular to it, thus some are flat against the base, while others project outwards. The surface thus created vibrates with a lively energy. Colour adds a dimension to this. He uses a single but mottled colour for these sculptures, the most beautiful is a blue and, from the way he applies the colour to the clay, the colour is uneven and makes subtle shifts from an intense hue to a purple- blue. This nuanced colour greatly enlivens the surface of these sculptures as they hang
against the wall, where they seem to hover and float.
A very different method is used for the low- profile bowls. Orestes has created moulds of different sizes into which he works the clay. The clay he uses must be very plastic and subtle for this process. He puts a quantity of clay into the mould and uses his thumb to push the clay in different directions until he has a complete layer covering the mould.
