Renewed confidence in the science and technology sector

Property sector awards went to ...

Dorset’s first property and architecture awards have been announced at a ceremony held at the Bournemouth International Centre.

Hosted by TV property expert Phil Spencer, more than 300 regional business people attended, comprising all aspects of the property sector: architects, surveyors, estate agents and construction companies.

Sponsored by Planning Solutions and following a drinks reception courtesy of PH Warr, Spencer spoke at length about how important the property industry was to the county: “Something like 20% of the county’s firms are involved in some aspect of the construction industry or real estate activities; that’s a hugely significant measure of just how important our industry is to the Dorset economy.“

The winners were:

Best conversion or extension Morgan Carey – The Goods Shed, Wareham

Best new commercial or mixed use development Graemar Group/Tesco – Westbourne Methodist Church

Best new community project Borough of Poole/Ingenium Archial – Hamworthy Community Library

Southampton Science Park is a 45-acre development in a prime Hampshire location – just a mile from the M3 motorway and one hour from London. The Science Park provides high-quality office and laboratory space in attractive landscaped surroundings, catering for science and technology businesses of all sizes; from budding entrepreneurs and high-growth university spinouts to world leaders such as Cisco Systems and Merck Chemicals.

In 2010, the opening of Benham Campus reflected Southampton Science Park’s confidence in the recovering economy. This important step has enabled them to progress their vision for the Science Park as an expanding home for some of the UK’s best knowledge-based businesses.

The newly built two storey office buildings offer a range of suites from 3,900 sq ft to 12,000 sq ft. The accommodation benefits from a high-quality specification creating a first-class working environment. Carbon efficient air source heat pumps provide integrated heating and cooling throughout and CAT6 IT cabling is available in all suites. Dedicated to meeting the ever changing needs of its tenants, the Science Park can offer various leasing options including allocated desks in shared offices, virtual tenancy and potential for building plots to be available on long lease terms.

Since welcoming its first tenant to Benham Campus, the Science Park has seen an

increase in a number of like-minded technology companies interested in basing themselves on the Park.

Peter Birkett, CEO, Southampton Science Park, explained: “2011 has been a great year so far for the Science Park; we’ve had a number of science and technology companies showing interest, and negotiations are underway with several, keeping us in line with our vision for the future. In the past six months we’ve invested heavily in the facilities on the Park to create a location where companies are keen to come and work; a place where considerable emphasis is also placed on the sense of community. Amongst the facilities at the Park are a newly expanded coffee shop, meeting rooms, a conference suite and the luxury hotel and leisure club at Chilworth Manor.“

The Science Park has a wealth of networking opportunities on site including connections with the SETsquared partnership, the SEEDA- funded Solent Innovation Growth Network (SIGN), the Science Park Network (the Park’s own events programme) and close links to Southampton University. Park tenants have access to some of the UK’s leading scientific expertise, making Southampton Science Park an ideal place for entrepreneurial technology businesses to grow.
