THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL “Strippers on the Run Who Sleep With Married Men, Who Live in the Same

Trailer Park and the Agoraphobic, Troubled Trailer Housewives Who Love Them’’ describes the new musical about plastic pink flamingos, adultery, 80s nos- talgia, spray cheese, road kill, Walmart couture, a broken electric chair, kleptomania, flan and disco. There’s a new tenant at Armadillo Acres—and she’s wreaking havoc all over north Florida’s most “exclusive” trailer park. Pippi, a stripper on the run, comes between the Dr. Phil -obsessed, agoraphobic Jeannie and her tollbooth collector husband. Lin and Pickles (a dim but sweet young thing who got her nickname because she’s

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS “Feed me!” One of the longest-running off-Broadway musicals of all time tells

the story of Seymour, a down-and-out floral assistant working at Mushnik’s Skid Row Florists. Seymour harbors an obsessive crush on his co-worker, Audrey who is involved in a relationship. During a day with a total eclipse of the sun, he happens upon a strange exotic plant, purchases it and names is Audrey II. The extraordinary plant’s talent makes him an overnight sensation, the only drawback being little Audrey II craves fresh human blood . . . what to do. Duh, take out the perfect sacrificial lamb, Audrey I’s sadistic dentist boyfriend. Before long, he comes up with Audrey II’s next meal, his boss, Mushnik; talk about wrong place, wrong time! Audrey II grows into an ill-tempered, sassy-tough-talking- R&B-singing carnivore who dangles fame and fortune at Seymour who is clearly desperate for notoriety. Unfortunately, Seymour gets in over his head and starts to run out of sacrificial friends, co-workers and strangers. Runs April 15 through May 1 at The La Mirada Theatre, 14900 La Mirada Boulevard, La Mirada. Tickets: 562.944.9801 or 714.994.6310 or LaMiradaTheatre.com

THE TEMPERAMENTALS The Temperamentals is a 2009 play by Jon Marans. It chronicles the found- ing of the Mattachine Society, the first sustained LGTB rights organization in the United States, and the love affair of two of its founding members, Harry Hay and Rudi Gernreich. The title is drawn from the pre-Stonewall usage of the word “temperamental” as slang for “homosexual,” which was part of a secret survival language created by gay men in the United States. In 1950s Los Angeles, tired of police harassment, back alley bars and living in fear, a few brave souls set out to change their world and claim their civil rights. In a time when nothing could be spoken in the open, the two main characters fall in love while building a movement. This is their story. The New York Times called The Temperamentals “Intellectual, emotional,

and sexual.” “Combines savvy context and ascending flights of bittersweet fabulousness,” said New York Newsday. The show runs at the 2nd Stage Theatre, 6500 Santa Monica Boulevard, April 9 – May 22. Tickets: theblank.com.

always hysterically pregnant) team up to save their friend’s marriage and the trailer park storm begins to brew. PURSUED BY HAPPINESS The Road Theatre Company is all about producing new works. In their 20th season, they pose the question . . . are we pursuing happiness or is happiness, biologically speaking, pursuing us? Pursued by Happiness revolves around an unexpected meeting between two 40-something

biochemists.

(How often does that happen?) Their uncanny chemistry sets a whirlwind romance in motion. When it’s time to meet the parents however, a series of shocking revelations test the new couple’s relationship in this quirky comedy by playwright, Keith Huffer. His recent production of “A Steady Rain” was sold out and featured Dan- iel Craig and Hugh Jackman (it was the highest grossing non-musical play in Broadway history). Huffer is currently adapting the hit play into a screenplay for Barbara Brocolli and EON Films and has several other worthy projects in the works. Runs through Saturday, May 14 at the Historic Lankershim Arts Center, 5108 Lankershim Blvd. North Hollywood. Tickets: 818.761.8838 or roadtheatre.org.
