QSPEAK: A SPEAKER SERIES OF ALL THINGS LGBTIQ For more than 30 years, the Gay & Lesbian Center of Greater Long Beach has been

a central force and cultural hub for the LGBTIQ community in Southern California. The Center Long Beach continues this tradition with a new lecture series—QSpeak. The academic speaker for the month of April is Dr. Marie Cartier. An artist, author and lecturer, Carter will present “Baby You are My Religion: Butch Femme/Gay Women’s Bar Culture 1940s to 1980s,” where she will include the tales, testimonies, and photos of pre-Stonewall gay women and men who considered the bar space as an alternative church. QSpeak takes place at The Art Theatre, located at 2025 East Fourth Street next door to The Center LB, on Saturday, April 30, from noon to 2 p.m. A $5 to $20 donation at the door is suggested. For more information, e-mail qspeak@centerlb.org.

There’s a variety of ways to support the community, but The Village Variety Pack busts out of the box showcasing our hottest young musicians, comedians, performance artists and talents! To top it off, all the proceeds of the $15 admission benefit the box office of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center.
