STN Brings ‘Happyness’ to the EXPO Christopher Gardner, whose best-selling autobiography gained even more notoriety
when it was adapted into the 2006 film “Te Pursuit of Happyness” starring Will Smith, will present the featured keynote address at this year’s 18th Annual School Transpor- tation EXPO in Reno during an evening event on Monday, July 25 sponsored by Blue Bird Corporation and REI. Gardner’s rise from a homeless, single father to the owner and CEO of Gardner Rich LLC, will only be part of the speech, “Breaking Cycles,” as he will also focus on homeless issues and the importance of a father’s role in the lives of children. Gardner will also be on hand for a reception and book signing following his address. Learn more at

Who Do You Love?
Feb. 14 and the entire month marked the latest opportunity to combine Valentine’s Day
with love of the yellow bus. Industry associations, districts and bus companies around the country celebrated not only the bus itself, but those behind the wheel. In an effort to use the event to throw a spotlight on the school bus, the American School Bus Council sent a letter (
www.stnonline.com/go/773) to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, Education Secretary Arne Duncan and EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson to invite them to ASBC’s Love the Bus event held in Maryland.

NSTA Gets New Executive Director Behind the Wheel At its mid-winter meeting this past January, NSTA President Donnie Fowler announced that David Hobson was set to take the
reigns as the organization’s executive director. A former school bus driver, Hobson’s most recent position was as president and CEO of the Uniform and Textile Service Association (UTSA). And, according to NSTA President-Elect Magda Dimmendaal, Hobson even wore a yellow tie on his first day on the job on Feb. 1. Look for an in depth interview with Hobson in an upcoming issue of STN.
