Independent School District initially retrofitted 10 of its school buses to test whether the bulbs had longer life and offered bet- ter visibility. Te bulbs passed the pilot test and have now been added to the majority of the fleet. In one case, experience with LEDs on district-owned tractor/trailers prompted Robert Sut- ton’s decision to include LEDs on school buses when he became transportation director for Augusta (Kan.) Public Schools. “I soon realized the savings on maintaining the LED over the


single-bulb lighting,” said Sutton. In other instances, newly-purchased buses arrived from the


local dealer with LEDs already in place. After seeing the ben- efits, Tony Briscoe, transportation supervisor for Moorpark (Calif.) Unified School District, began adding them to the rest of his fleet. “It reduces the amount of time our mechanics spend on re-
