operates from a state-of- the-art facility at the Riverside Municipal Airport (KRAL). The facility built in 1995 is home to a fleet of four helicopters, three two- person patrol flight crews, a task force pilot and two mechanics.


URS Delivers Customized AS350B3 to Hospital Wing


United Rotorcraft Solutions (URS) recently delivered a completed Eurocopter AS350B3 to Hospital Wing of Memphis, TN.


The AS350B3 helicopter was customized for air med- ical operations. The avion- ics and communications integration included a Garmin GNS 530AW, Garmin GNS430AW NAV/Comm/GPS, GTX330 Transponder, the GEA-43 Encoder, Honeywell Radar Altimeter along with the Technisonic TFM500 FM system, Avydine TAS 610E Traffic Warning System, Garmin GTS 800 HTAWS, the DAC MD-076 Weather Receiver, Outerlink’s CP31 Flight Tracker and a NAT audio system.


Also installed were the Sagem 2-Axis Autopilot, Reduced Instrument Panel, DART aft baggage door hinge system, and Airframe fuel filter. URS outfitted the helicopter with the

Lifeport air medical interi- or, URS Custom Pilot Barrier, Monitor Mount, Med Wall and Oxygen sys- tem, Air Comm air condi- tioning, AAI Night Scanner and the URS Lead Acid Battery Maintainer. The Lifeport litter base was modified to fit Hospital Wings existing Ferno litter. URS finished the aircraft with Hospital Wing’s cus- tomized exterior paint scheme. “We at United Rotorcraft Solutions were very excited to have been awarded this contract” says David Brigham, President. “Allen Burnett and the Hospital Wing staff are truly a pleas- ure to work with; working with the “Wing” is a great honor.” ◆


In a given year, the unit will fly almost 2,200 hours, respond to over 5000 radio calls and initiate or assist in over 300 arrests. Flight crews consist of two pilots or a pilot and a pilot trainee. Each crewmember is a sworn police officer with a mini- mum of three years of patrol experience prior to appointment. The current pilots now flying have amassed more than 30,000 hours of total flight time and have a combined 90 + years of airborne law enforcement experience. At a minimum pilots are required to have a FAA Commercial Instrument Rotorcraft certificate and one pilot has his FAA Airline Transport Pilot Rotorcraft certificate. The mission of Air One, as the helicopter is known, is to support all other units within the Police

Police Department Aviation Unit celebrated its 40th anniversary and currently


Department. Air One serves the Patrol, Traffic and Investigative services daily. Air One also supports other City departments (such as Fire, Public Utilities and Code Enforcement) and provides mutual aid to other allied agencies when neces- sary.
