ith a houseful of Australian visitors for Christmas, there was much laughter – and some disgust – at the endless news reports of FROZEN BRITAIN. Every TV bulletin, every newspaper headline boomed out about the frozen state of the country; roads, rails, runways, all frozen. No quick trips to Paris


(as planned), struggles even to get into London for some fun, worries about getting home; out of FROZEN BRITAIN. We weren’t impressed. Now, the snow and ice has (as I write this, at any rate) gone, so do we now have Fully Functioning Britain? Well no, we don’t. We have, at best, Sluggish Britain, with mortgages still locked up in vaults

somewhere and lack of confidence in just about everything, we have an almost moribund housing market. When we started to research our feature about the British property markets expectations for 2011, we weren’t really expecting to be using slugs, or rather, snails, as the illustration; hopeful that some experts would see some bright strands of light across the property skies. We were disappointed. So what’s to be done? What will happen in our world? I think the answer is, as ever, the survival of the fittest. Leaner companies, working harder, thinking smartly, will be the winners. Dreamers and lazy people – well, bye-bye, Austerity Britain demands innovation and determination to come through the sluggishness of January and blossom in the spring (OK, maybe that’s spring 2012!). We’re looking out for great ideas, innovations


in service, thinking way, way outside the box. Understanding – and using – today’s technology, training staff properly, investing more effort. Some agents are already doing this and it is so exciting to hear about new branches, new staff, qualifications, please let us know what you are up to, if it’s working, and what you hope and plan for.
