Will ring return to make Julie’s new year happy?

JULIE Calver had never given up hope of finding her 20th anniversary ring. But even she was surprised when she re- ceived an anonymous letter ex- actly four years after losing her precious, diamond-encrusted gold band. Julie was devastated when

she lost it over Christmas 2006 while shopping at Marks and Spencer in Maidstone. Despite her best efforts to re-

cover the ring - with the help of the shop, local jewellers and the police - nothing turned up. So Julie, of Cranborne Av-

enue, was dumbfounded when she returned from work re- cently to find a letter behind the door from a person claiming to have the ring.

Unfortunately there was no name on the

note - and the contact phone number had one digit missing. So Julie contacted the Downs

Mail for help.We had originally featured the story about the dis- appearance. The ring - a yellow gold band with a dark blue peb- ble-like gem and a diamond sur- round - was bought to mark 20 years of marriage to Ronald in July 2003. Julie, a commodity buyer, is appealing to the anonymous let- ter writer to contact her via the Downs Mail. She explained: "He said he wanted to make sure he had the right person before he

returned the ring." This is Julie's response:

THE development of 14 new homes in Tovil was deferred after it emerged that garage space fell below KCC’s recommended guidelines. In December 2007, Maidstone Council accepted

a plan for 11 houses in Sharp House, Tovil Green. Tovil Parish Council felt that adding three more properties resulted in over-development. It also criticised parking provision. The new application increased parking spaces

from 11 to 17, but a report presented to Maid- stone’s planning committee stated: “Plots 12-14 would have one space in a garage, although the garage spaces are below the recommended size.” This size is 5.5m length by 3.6mwidth. It was not stated if certain vehicles would not fit into the garages. Development controlmanager Rob Jarman said:

Dear Anonymous I want to confirm to you I am the person

you are looking for and have proof the ring is mine. I have never forgotten about it in the passing years and indeed have carried a photo of it in my bag all this time believing one day I would see it again. It would mean the world to me to get it

back. I want to reassure you I am not con- cerned with the circumstances of how you acquired it. I have been trying to contact you but un-

fortunately the telephone number on the bottom of your letter is missing a digit and despite my desperate efforts to workout what the missing information is I have not been successful. The Downs Mail has agreed to print my

plea to you to carry out your wish to return the ring to me. Please contact Peter in Edi-

Housing development deferred over garage sizes

“The main problem for these plots is the width of the garages. If you increase the width there will be less green space.” Committee member Cllr Clive English, who also

chairs Tovil Parish Council, responded: “In that case, there are too many units. From what you have said, there is a clear conflict between park- ing space and open space and there is at least one unit too many.” The committee unanimously voted for deferral.

Cllr Tony Harwood said: “Officers need to look at the design in some detail. Just because it is Tovil, doesn’t mean we should cram in as many homes as we can. “This is such an intensive development in a dif- ficult-to-develop site.We need to ensure we have a design that is fit for living.”

torial on 01622 734735, who will be able to pass on my con- tact details to you or you could arrange to have it delivered to my home address by a third party or leave it somewhere I could collect it. I would be eter- nally grateful to get it backand it would be the best New Year present ever. Yours Thankfully Julie
