Anger over plea for Saturday testing

ANOTHER planning application from the company managing the high-security data centre next to the Vinters Park Nature Re- serve has angered residents. Computer Sciences Corporation, located

in Pegasus Place off Lodge Road next to Maidstone TV studios, was given permis- sion in October to remove the roof of a transformer enclosure to help reduce the noise levels. The company was already in the process of appealing against a noise abatement order served by Maidstone Coun- cil.

Residents from the Bargrove Action

Group (BAG) campaigned against the roof removal, claiming it would increase the low-frequency humming noise they say has impaired their quality of life since the data centre was established around six years ago.

POLICE have released this image of a man they want to question in con- nection with a series of credit card frauds in Maidstone totalling more than £8,000. Credit cards and identification documents have been stolen from lockers at David Lloyds gym in Maidstone and then used at differ- ent outlets in the town centre either to withdraw cash or buy foreign currency. A total of £8,230 was stolen in the

four crimes reported to police so far. The man police wish to speak

with is described as white, between 35-45 years old, with a chubby face, of stocky build, clean shaven and dressed as a builder – wearing a hi-

They have objected to several other appli- cations in recent years because of noise. CSC’s latest application is to vary an ex-

isting condition to be allowed to undertake back-up generator testing on Saturdays, be- tween 8am and 1pm. The applicant’s sup- porting statement says that this procedure carries the risk of component failure result- ing in potential loss of service. It continued: “Due to the high-risk nature

of back-up generator testing, it is industry best practice that these activities are per- formed outside core business hours (Mon- day to Friday) when the impact on client business as a result of service loss is signif- icantly reduced. “Furthermore, most contractual service

level agreements that IT service level providers have with their customers pro-

these frauds were committed in broad daylight and in very public places. “I urge people to study the image

of the man and contact us if they recognise him. In addition, he may wish to come forward and help rule himself out of our inquiries. “We believe he may not be from

the Kent area, but he may have con- tacts here who know him.” Anyone with information is asked

to contact police in Maidstone on 01622 604210 quoting crime refer- ence CY/17849/10 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

hibit the execution of such high risk activi- ties during the week.” The statement adds that, should the ap- plication not receive planning permission, CSC would have to cease all future genera- tor testing or perform testing during office hours. “Both scenarios involve breaches of client contractual service agreements, which will result in financial loss to CSC and its clients in terms of penalty payments and legal costs, as well as impacting nega- tively on CSC’s reputation and ability to win outsourcing business.” BAG has criticised this statement, claim-

ing the company should not have signed up to contracts it was unable to fulfill. A BAG member said: “CSC told us a year

Flats replacement

plan is rejected MAIDSTONE Council has re- fused a plan to demolish four self-contained flats, replacing them with seven one-bedroom flats at 56-58 Boxley Road, Maidstone. The planning department felt

the proposal represented a de- velopment of poor design, “and would be harmful to the char- acter and appearance of the streetscene”.
