Grey Coat 8 Issue 9: January 2011 Year 10 Dance Leaders plan health and fitness session
During the Autumn term, 17 pupils from Year 10 elected to complete the Sports Leaders UK ‘Dance Leaders Award’ during their Core PE lessons.
The Dance Leaders Award is a nationally recognised qualification that teaches leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through the medium of dance.
As part of this award, the Dance Leaders improved their dance skills and knowledge by choreographing and performing their own dances in the Gym and Dance Display in November. In addition to performing, all of the Dance Leaders developed their leadership skills backstage by organising all of the other performers and helping the evening to run smoothly.
During December, the Dance Leaders had their final assessment as part of the award. This involved planning and leading a health and fitness session to tutor groups from Year 7 – 9, which aimed to develop pupils’ fitness through the medium of dance as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle.
