INTERNET SAFETY? I read with interest the article in the November 2010 issue [page 42] about

districts providing Internet access to their student passengers on the school bus. However, I was surprised that the article addressed only concerns about safety in terms of online content, and not the physical hazards. Many of our students have long bus rides, too, and I am sure that the service helps keeps students occupied. But what about the danger of 40 or more laptops becom- ing projectiles in the event of a crash? Nothing is mentioned about the devices being physically secured in any way. By providing the Internet access, and in some cases even the computers themselves, I believe these districts may be creating the very type of unsafe conditions that we all work to eliminate.

Lynn Edwards, Director of Transportation Franklin County (Ind.) Community School Corporation Contributing Editors: Editor’s note — Tat’s a great point, Lynn. In the past we’ve looked

at backpacks as projectiles and will do the same for laptops in a future magazine issue. Tanks.

A YELLOW REFURB I just read the September 2010 article [page 34] about districts that

are participating in bus refurbishments and reconditioning. I performed many of those tasks at the school district I worked for, and I have many before and after pics along with techniques that I could share with you if you are ever in the need for photos. Just about all of my photos are Blue Bird snapshots as I live in Peach County, Ga., and that’s all you see.
