Maidstone Borough Council 3 New food waste collection service

With your help, Maidstone Borough Council wants to recycle 50% of all waste in the borough by 2015. We are making changes to the way your food waste is collected so that you can recycle more and we can process it in a cheaper and more environmentally acceptable way. From January 31, 2011 we will be introducing a new weekly food waste collection service. We will be delivering two new containers to your home, together with instructions on how to use them. All you will need to do is empty food waste into the new bin and put it out for collection. Food waste will be collected every week on the same day as your rubbish and recycling collections. With a weekly food waste collection, there will be no need to collect the remainder of your rubbish so often. Therefore your grey wheelie bin for rubbish will be collected every other week from January 31, 2011.

If you have shared rubbish and recycling bins, your current collection service will not change.

What happens to your food waste? Your food waste is taken to a special processing plant where it is recycled into compost.

Start of the service Your food waste containers will be delivered over two weeks from January 24, 2011.

What we will provide To enable you to separate your food waste easily from the rest of your rubbish, we will provide you with:

What will I be
