The Dino Sculptor

For the last twelve years Anthony J Pusey has been turning scrap metal into awe-inspiring sculptures.

Also known as The Dino Sculptor, Tony has taken it upon himself to compile the most comprehensive collection of handcrafted prehistoric skeletons, of which he would like to one day exhibit in his own museum – right here in our fine city.

A motor mechanic by trade, it all began in his mother’s back-street garage on Nelson Street. Initially, he would simply weld items of scrap metal together, creating all kinds of weird and wonderful shapes. However, the limits this drew inspired him to hand-cut his own pieces from sheet steel, allowing him to build the sculptures he craved. Tony’s earlier work included fantastical beasts such as dragons and demons, naturally evolving to dinosaurs through his love of natural history.

This hobby stroke passionate obsession quickly caught the eye of the passing public. School groups began to flock to see the collection, and this then turned to Tony touring local schools himself. It was then that he was offered space at the Dinosaur Adventure Park, where he is still based today.

His pieces have attracted attention from clients across the globe. He has made numerous radio and TV appearances, supplied pieces to a variety of businesses from Norwich City Council to Pensthorpe Nature Sanctuary, and won countless awards, including top prize at the 2003 Miami Festival of the Arts.

Of course, Tony is by no means limited to dinosaurs. Working on commission, he will happily take on any challenge and admits he has had some very creative requests over the years, with insects currently popular.

Each sculpture is cut and constructed by hand and can take anything from a few hours to a number of weeks, depending on the size. His largest creation is an enormous 35ft crocodile.

Tony is the first to admit that he never thought this pastime would develop into a thriving business - it was certainly not

TONY ADORES WHAT HE DOES FOR A LIVING, SEEING IT MORE AS A WAY OF LIFE THAN A JOB

planned to be - and although Tony adores what he does for a living, seeing it more as a way of life than a job, it consists of a lot of hard work: he has been working seven days a week, eight hours a day for the last ten years.

Tony can be seen creating these gigantic prehistoric monsters through the summer and during the school holidays in his workshop at the Dinosaur Adventure Park in Lenwade, where his sculptures are also permanently exhibited.
